The Banned Book That Never Existed: Space Oddity

In 2011 Canadian illustrator and graphic designer Andrew Kolb hit on the idea of creating an kids book based on the classic David Bowie song Space Oddity. He designed a wonderful retro style illustrated book, that he hoped would show off his design skills to prospective publishers. The book went viral, with people all over the world requesting real copies of the book.
Unfortunately the book caught the attention of the music group that owned the rights to Space Oddity, and they sent him an email requesting that he took down the illustrations off his website www.kolbisneat.com and remove any references to the song. He did as he was requested, but the book had already gone viral by that time. Being reposted by lovers of the book all over the Weird Wide Web. The book is awesome, and it's sad that he was forced to pull it. However here it is in all its full glory, as I managed to grab a copy from Kolb's website before it was banned. Also at the bottom of the page is a genius animation video done using the illustrations from the book, to Bowie's original song. |
